The Experience
Autumn in the Arctic is calm, colorful and deeply grounding.
The Stilla area — known for its open valleys, mountains, rivers and tundra — is the perfect setting for a slow-life journey with the Sámi.
During your stay, you live alongside a Sámi family whose daily rhythm still follows the reindeer. Days unfold naturally: checking the herd, preparing for winter, gathering firewood, walking the tundra, sharing meals and stories.
This is not a rushed tourist program.
It is an intimate cultural immersion, where weather, daylight and reindeer movement shape each day.
Expect simplicity, stillness and moments that stay with you long after you leave.
+ A Typical Day in Stilla
This is an example. In Sámi slow-life culture, nature decides — not the clock.
Morning – Breakfast & Planning
Wake up to silence in the Stilla valley. Enjoy breakfast and discuss the day with your hosts.
Daytime – Reindeer & Nature
Travel with the family to check the reindeer. Depending on the herd’s location, you may:
-
observe and help herd the animals
-
learn about autumn behavior and migration
-
practice basic lasso skills
-
walk and photograph the tundra in autumn colors
Afternoon – Slow-Life Activities
Quiet, grounding activities such as:

walking in the mountains
-
knife skills or small craft traditions

-
coffee and conversation by the fire
Evening – Dinner & Lavvu Time
