The Experience
Every year, reindeer move between their winter and summer pastures — an instinctive journey that has shaped Sámi life for thousands of years. As a guest, you join a Sámi family on this migration, traveling through Arctic landscapes at the pace set by the herd.
This is not a fixed-schedule tour. Some days involve movement across the tundra, while others are calm and quiet. It is a true slow-life experience rooted in nature, tradition and cooperation.
For many guests, this becomes one of the most authentic and powerful cultural experiences they have ever had.
+ A Typical Day on the Migration
The reindeer decide the pace — you follow their natural rhythm.
Morning – Camp & Planning
Wake up in the lavvu, share breakfast with your Sámi hosts and discuss the herd’s movement and weather conditions.
Daytime – Following the Herd
Travel by snowmobile and sled (spring) or by foot/ATV (autumn) to locate and gently guide the reindeer. Some days involve long movement; others involve waiting, resting or slow travel.
Afternoon – Quiet Time & Camp Tasks
Long pauses are common and part of real migration life. You may rest, photograph, gather wood, learn herding skills or share coffee around the fire.
Evening – Camp & Food
As the herd settles, camp is set up for the night. A warm meal is prepared using traditional ingredients.
Night – Arctic Light
Depending on season: Northern Lights, dark skies or endless daylight.
