Sámi Easter Festival Experience – Kautokeino

Written by Mihkkal Aslat Ivvar Sara, Sámi reindeer herder and founder of Reindeer Island Hammerfest. Updated March 2026.

Can I attend a Sámi Easter Festival with reindeer racing in Hammerfest?

No. The best-known Sámi Easter Festival with reindeer racing and lasso competitions takes place in Kautokeino, not Hammerfest.

Every Easter, Kautokeino becomes the cultural capital of Sápmi.

Families gather, reindeer races fill the snow-covered plains, joik concerts echo through the night, and traditional competitions take place in the heart of Sámi reindeer country.

This exclusive 5-day experience brings you into the heart of the Sámi Easter Festival — not as a tourist, but as a welcomed guest.
