The Experience
Far from roads, cities and noise, Sámi winter life unfolds in one of Europe’s last true Arctic wilderness areas.
For generations, reindeer herders have followed the rhythm of the herd, the weather and the seasons.
During this four-day stay, you become part of that rhythm. Days are slow and practical: caring for the reindeer, gathering firewood, preparing meals and moving through the winter landscape as the Sámi do.
There are no fixed schedules.
Nature decides the pace.
You are not a spectator — you take part in daily life, spending evenings in the lavvu with fire, stories and silence beneath the Arctic sky.
For many guests, this experience offers a rare sense of calm, clarity and connection.
+ A Typical Winter Day
This is an example. Weather, daylight and the reindeer decide the details.
Morning – Breakfast & Planning
Wake up in the log cabin, enjoy a warm breakfast and discuss the day with your hosts while preparing winter gear.
Daytime – Visiting the Reindeer
Travel by snowmobile into the tundra to locate the herd. Depending on conditions, you may:
-
check on the animals
-
give extra feed
-
practice basic lasso skills
-
learn how Sámi move with the herd in winter
Afternoon – Fire, Food & Rest
Return to the cabin for lunch, warm drinks and rest by the fire.
Late Afternoon – Winter Tasks
Simple but essential tasks such as:
-
gathering firewood
-
fetching water
-
preparing food
-
learning traditional winter skills
This is where the slow-life feeling is strongest.
Evening – Dinner & Lavvu Time
Enjoy a homemade Sámi dinner with local ingredients. After dinner, gather in the lavvu for joik, storytelling and cultural insight.
Night – Northern Lights & Silence
Step outside into the cold, dark Arctic night. With no light pollution, the Northern Lights often appear above the tundra.
